Murfreesboro Post, May 15, 2014
The community is invited to “Slide into Summer” and enjoy wine tasting and refreshments poolside and under the moonlight to support the efforts of Mindful Care Adult Day Services of Rutherford County, Saturday, May 31, from 7-10 p.m.
The event will be held the home of Col. Michael D. France and Susan France, 2418 Colfax Drive in Murfreesboro.
All sponsorships and donations at the door will go toward operating a program that offers compassionate care during the weekday for those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related illness, while providing their family caregivers the opportunity to rest, run errands, even continue employment.
The garden party and fundraiser will feature Dr. Tony Johnston, MTSU agriculture professor and certified wine steward, who will instruct attendees in the art of discerning the various aromas and flavors of the grape.
Patrons who wish to participate in a wine-swap (optional) may bring a bottle and take home another — all valued at between $15 and $20.
Jazz music will be streamed throughout the party area, and light refreshments will be served.
There are more than 3,000 people in Rutherford County alone with Alzheimer’s disease and 5.3 million people in the United States. In 2013, Mindful Care, a 501c3, provided approximately 6,000 hours of service to a total of 27 care-giving families. Community volunteers contributed more than 2,100 hours to the program — and the organization’s board of directors gave more than 1200 hours of service. Grants and private donations provide two-thirds of the program’s operations.
